Community survey (Mindoro)
Getting to know the people in need, we conducted a community survey in one of the indigenous communities in Mindoro.
The Nurturing Minds Foundation Volunteers visited Sitio Dacutan Baranggay Balatasan in Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro, to conduct a demographic survey on a group of Mangyan (Indigenous people in Mindoro) on June 19, 2022.
The village is located at the top of the mountaine and a very secluded area. In order to
The residents of the community were wary of the volunteers at the beginning allowing only three (3) families to be interviewed.
After continued efforts of reaching out to the community, it was discovered that the people there relies on “pagkakaingin” as their main source of income. According to one of the members in the community, there are no other skills/ source of income they could rely to earn money. With these situations, the women and kids could only wait at home for food brought by the men in their community. If there is no one to hire the Mangyan to do the kaingin then there will be no food to bring home to their children.
NMF was humbled to learn of their situation and will be coming up with interventions to help this community.
